A riven Indian sandstone patio with fresh planting and a feature tree, turning a tired garden into a space that's used all year.
The brief
The garden had a dated, uneven surface and little to draw the eye. The owners wanted a generous patio they could actually use, softened with planting rather than left as a bare slab.
What we did
We took up the old surface and dug down to the right depth, laid and compacted a proper sub-base, then set the riven Indian sandstone on a full mortar bed with even joints and falls for drainage. Around it we prepared the borders and brought in fresh planting, with a feature tree set in a gravel bed and timber sleeper edging to keep everything crisp.
The result
