Porcelain patio transformation, Orpington area

A crisp porcelain patio with a brick border and split-face stone steps, creating a low-maintenance space that flows straight out from the back of the house.

The brief

The owners wanted a smart, low-maintenance patio that connected the house to the garden and gave them a proper space to sit out and entertain. Porcelain was the natural choice: it is hard-wearing, easy to keep clean and holds its colour.

The layout needed to work with the levels of the garden, with steps handling the change in height rather than an awkward slope.

What we did

We prepared a solid, well-drained base and laid the porcelain on a full mortar bed with a primer slurry, which is essential for porcelain to bond properly and stay put. Falls were set to carry water away from the house, with a drainage channel where needed.

A brick soldier-course border frames the paving and gives it a clean edge, while split-face stone was used for the steps and risers to link the levels neatly.

The result

A sharp, usable patio that sits flush with the house and needs very little looking after. The mix of porcelain, brick and split-face stone gives it a considered, finished look.

Carried out by our own team, fully insured and guaranteed. We have been laying patios across the Orpington area for around 25+ years.
