Full garden refurbishment, Beckenham
A complete back-garden refurbishment in Beckenham: out went an ageing timber deck, a tired lawn and an old riven patio, and in came a large porcelain patio, an artificial-grass lawn with stepping-stones, new fencing, planted borders and a timber garden room.
The brief
This Beckenham back garden had done its years. A raised timber deck ran out from the house, greyed and tired, with a worn lawn beyond it, an old riven-slab patio to one side and an ageing shed at the far end.
The owners wanted the whole garden taken back and rebuilt as one usable, low-maintenance space, with a proper patio to sit out on, a tidy lawn that stays green, and room at the back for a garden room.
Clearance and groundwork
We stripped the garden right back first: up came the old decking, the worn lawn and the old patio slabs, and the ground was cleared and dug out to the right depths.
Everything that follows depends on what goes in underneath, so we laid and compacted sub-bases across the garden and poured concrete bases where the new paving and the garden room would sit, with the levels and falls set to drain water away from the house.
The porcelain patio
A large porcelain patio now wraps out from the house, laid across the prepared base to a consistent, well-drained finish. The pale, large-format slabs open the garden up and give a generous area to sit and dine on right by the bifold doors.
A second paved area was laid at the far end of the garden, by the garden room, so there is somewhere to use at both ends of the space.
Lawn, stepping-stones and borders
Down the middle we laid an artificial-grass lawn, set with porcelain plank stepping-stones that run from the patio to the garden room. It keeps the green through the year with none of the mowing or mud.
The borders were replanted along the fence line, edged with timber and finished with solar spike lights, giving the garden structure and a bit of height against the new fencing.
Fencing and the garden room
New slatted timber fence panels were fitted on both boundaries, set on concrete posts for a straight, long-lasting line, which lifts the whole garden and gives it privacy.
At the rear, a timber garden room sits on its own concrete base, squaring off the end of the garden and giving the owners a proper room outside the house.
The result
A full refurbishment, done as one job: a tired deck-and-lawn garden rebuilt into a clean, low-maintenance space that runs from the patio by the house, down the lawn and stepping-stones, to the garden room at the back.
Carried out start to finish by our own team, fully insured and guaranteed, drawing on around 25+ years of building patios, lawns and gardens across Beckenham and the surrounding areas.
